I started my career as a labor and employment lawyer. I went into law for one purpose - I thought lawyers were all wealthy. In my mind I would "make it" when I walked through the doors at one of those large law firms glorified on network television.
Three years into my law career I achieved my goal, but I hated it. Fortunately, my discontent led me to an opportunity to work in human resources – first in a school district, then in a city and now at a university.
Human resources, when done right, is the focus on people and organizational culture. What could be more significant than uniting with others to create an environment where all people get to do something that has meaning and leaves a positive imprint? That is more than just “making a living”. It’s a life’s calling.
